TalkTiles Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 2026

Web & Things ("we," "our," or "us") operates the TalkTiles mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account or sign in with Google, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Display name
  • Profile photo (if using Google Sign In)

User-Generated Content

When you use the App, we store:

  • Custom vocabulary items (words and phrases)
  • Categories you create
  • Images you upload for vocabulary items

Local Data (Device Only)

The following data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers:

  • Settings PIN
  • Cached images for offline access

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the App
  • Sync your vocabulary across devices
  • Authenticate your account
  • Improve and optimize the App

Anonymous Usage Statistics

TalkTiles collects anonymous, aggregate usage statistics so we can understand which features help our users and improve the app. Examples of what we record: that a sentence of three tiles was spoken, that a custom tile was created, or that a settings screen was used.

We never track, record, or store what you or your child says.

Tile text, composed sentences and phrases, uploaded photos, voice recordings, and names are never included in analytics. Events contain only counts and fixed categories, and they are not linked to your identity. We treat your communication the way a doctor treats medical records: it is yours, not data.

Analytics are processed by TelemetryDeck (TelemetryDeck GmbH, Germany), a privacy-first analytics service. Identifiers are irreversibly anonymized on your device before anything is sent, and data is stored on servers in the European Union. TelemetryDeck cannot reconstruct who you are, and neither can we.

Usage Insights and IEP Reports (Optional, On Your Device)

Caregivers can turn on Usage Insights to see which words and categories are used over time and export an IEP-ready PDF report. This feature is off by default. When enabled, the data — including the words used — is stored only on your device. It is never uploaded to us or to any third party; it leaves the device only if you export and share a report yourself.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive anonymized purchase records (via RevenueCat) so we can understand subscriptions and support our customers. We never see your payment details.

Third-Party Services

TalkTiles uses the following third-party services:

Google Firebase

  • Firebase Authentication (account management)
  • Cloud Firestore (vocabulary data storage)
  • Firebase Storage (image storage)
  • Firebase Analytics (anonymous usage statistics)

Google Sign In

  • Optional authentication method
  • Subject to Google's Privacy Policy

TelemetryDeck

  • Anonymous, aggregate usage statistics (see "Anonymous Usage Statistics" above)
  • Identifiers are irreversibly anonymized on-device; data stored in the European Union

Apple & RevenueCat

  • Subscription purchases processed by Apple
  • Anonymized purchase records via RevenueCat (see "Purchases" above)

For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase services. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account and associated data at any time through the App settings or by contacting us.

Children's Privacy

TalkTiles is designed as an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tool, and many of our users are children. No personal information from children is ever used for advertising or tracking, and communication content — what a child says with the app — is never collected. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Parents and guardians are responsible for:

  • Creating and managing accounts for children
  • Supervising children's use of the App
  • Managing vocabulary content

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and data
  • Export your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

To exercise these rights, contact us at admin@webandthings.com.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
