Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

What is Caption Pilot?

Caption Pilot is an AI-powered app that generates social media captions from YouTube videos. Simply paste a YouTube URL, choose your preferred caption style and target platform, and Caption Pilot will create a ready-to-post caption using AI.

How does Caption Pilot work?

Caption Pilot extracts the transcript from a YouTube video, then uses Google's Gemini AI to analyze the content and generate a social media caption tailored to your chosen style and platform. The caption is optimized with appropriate hashtags and character limits for your target platform.

Do I need an account to use Caption Pilot?

No, Caption Pilot does not require an account. You can start generating captions immediately after downloading the app. Your caption history and favorites are stored locally on your device.

What YouTube URL formats are supported?

Caption Pilot supports all standard YouTube URL formats including youtube.com/watch?v=..., youtu.be/..., and YouTube Shorts URLs. Simply copy the URL from YouTube and paste it into the app.

Using Caption Pilot

What caption styles are available?

Caption Pilot offers 7 caption styles:

  • Professional - Polished, authoritative tone
  • Casual - Friendly, conversational
  • Inspirational - Motivating, uplifting
  • Educational - Informative, clear
  • Engaging - Hook-driven, interactive
  • Storytelling - Narrative, immersive
  • Minimalist - Clean, minimal approach
Which social media platforms are supported?

Caption Pilot currently generates captions optimized for Instagram (2,200 character limit with 5 hashtags) and Facebook (63,206 character limit with 3 hashtags). Each platform gets a caption tailored to its best practices and character limits.

Can I edit or rework a generated caption?

Yes! After a caption is generated, you can edit it directly in the app. You can also use the "Rework" feature to provide specific feedback to the AI (e.g., "make it shorter" or "add more emojis") and it will regenerate the caption based on your instructions.

How do I save and access my caption history?

All generated captions are automatically saved to your history, accessible from the History tab. You can mark captions as favorites for quick access, search through your history, and filter by favorites. All data is stored locally on your device.

How do I search for YouTube channels?

Use the channel search feature on the Home tab to find YouTube channels. Once you find a channel, you can browse their videos and quickly generate captions from any video without manually copying URLs.

Subscription & Billing

What's included in the free version?

The free version includes a limited number of caption generations per month, all 7 caption styles, both platform options (Instagram and Facebook), and caption history. Ads are shown between uses.

What do I get with the Pro subscription?

The Pro subscription gives you unlimited caption generations, removes all advertisements, and provides priority access to new features as they're released.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. Go to your device Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions to view, modify, or cancel your Caption Pilot subscription. You can also access subscription management from the Settings tab within the app.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

Open Caption Pilot on your new device and go to the Settings tab. Tap "Restore Purchases" and your subscription or Remove Ads purchase will be restored automatically using your Apple ID.

Troubleshooting

Why can't Caption Pilot extract a transcript from my video?

Not all YouTube videos have transcripts available. Videos must have either auto-generated or manually added captions/subtitles on YouTube. Live streams, very new uploads, and some private videos may not have transcripts available yet.

The generated caption doesn't match the video content - why?

Caption quality depends on the transcript quality. Auto-generated YouTube transcripts can sometimes be inaccurate, especially for technical content or heavy accents. You can use the "Rework" feature to provide feedback and regenerate the caption, or edit it manually.

I've reached my monthly limit - what can I do?

Free users have a monthly caption generation limit that resets at the beginning of each month. You can upgrade to Pro for unlimited generations, or wait for your limit to reset. Your current usage is shown in the Settings tab.

The app crashed - what should I do?

First, try closing the app completely and reopening it. If crashes continue, check for app updates in the App Store. If the issue persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Note that your caption history will be lost if you reinstall, as data is stored locally. Please contact us if crashes continue after these steps.
